Common questions
Do I need fancy equipment?
No. A phone and natural light are enough. Clear audio and a steady shot matter more than a fancy camera.
How do I get paid?
You add your bank account once, through a secure form run by Stripe (the payments company behind millions of businesses). Your share of each sale becomes payable 17 days after it, and goes to your bank automatically once you've earned $25. Anything under $25 is paid out in December.
Who buys my class?
Licensed beauty professionals only. Every buyer verifies their state license before they can purchase, so your class goes to fellow pros looking to add your technique to what they already do, never to someone trying it at home.
Do classes count for CE hours?
Not through Maevi. Classes are professional education, not state-approved continuing education, so they don't count toward license renewal.
Can buyers get a refund?
No. All sales on Maevi are final, and every buyer confirms that before they pay, so a sale isn't undone because someone changed their mind. The rare exception is a bank dispute (a chargeback). If one comes after you've been paid, that sale's share comes out of your next payout.
I use Square at my salon. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Maevi handles the sale and pays you through a free Stripe payout account you set up once (Stripe checks your identity, like any bank would). Nothing changes about how your salon takes payments.
What does it cost to join?
Nothing. There's no monthly fee and no setup cost. Maevi takes 20% of each sale. If you don't sell, you don't pay.
Who sets the price?
You do, from $25. A formula guide or a single technique, like how you formulate one color, sits well at $25 to $49. For a full class, we suggest $79 to $149.
What if I've never taught before?
Perfect, that's who we built this for. Start with the one technique people always ask you about. One class, a handful of short lessons. We review your application personally and we're here to help.
What if my class goes out of date?
Update it or retire it. You can re-film any lesson, and students keep watching the old video until the new one is ready. Or retire the class from sale and publish a new version: nobody new can buy the old one, the students who already paid keep it, and they get a link to your update. They're the people most likely to buy it.
Do I keep the rights to my class?
Yes. You keep ownership of your videos, and Maevi's license is non-exclusive, so you can keep teaching the same technique in person or anywhere else. One thing lasts: people who bought your class keep watching it, even if you retire it.
Can buyers steal my videos?
Your lessons stream only to signed-in buyers through links that expire, and there's no download button. No website can fully block screen recording, so our Terms ban recording and sharing, and we can close accounts that do it.
